CHIMOS Recomends Lyrics Born at The Abbey Pub -- FRIDAY!
Damn. This is where sensationalism leaves me. I hype up one show (Sharon Jones!) and another equally titillating show arises but I’ve already drained my hyperbole reservoir for the weekend. I’m spent. I’m weak. But wait, if I dig deep I can maybe spit just one more exclamation point for my all-time favorite hip-hop headliner: Lyrics Born! LB and the beautiful Joyo Velarde will be gracing The Abbey Pub tomorrow night with their energetic melding of soul and rap. On record Lyrics Born is a graceful and inventive MC, live he is nothing short of the largest hard working man in show biz. Dare I say, Best Live Show In Hip-Hop?

Somewhere between Critical Mass and getting thrown out of Marie's (bitch-ass) Rip Tide on Friday night I witnessed LB and Joyo rock out with a live band. Very high-energy set and the crowd seemed to feel it. My only gripes is that the band really drowned LB's rhymes and Joyo's vocals and I suspect that the crowd was lured by that Coke commericial with Adrian Brody because everyone started going bonkers when Callin' Out was played. Fantastic show, still not the best one I saw this weekend.
